Death Prep 101 - End of Life Planning Zine (Physical Copy)
Get prepared with Death Prep 101! Dying can be a stressful time as many folks are navigating deathcare situations, systems, institutions and processes for the first time in the midst of a crisis. Both the dying person and their loved ones can feel overwhelmed by the amount of new information, processes, and amount of decisions they have to make, and rightfully so. There are a lot of decisions!
The intention of this zine is to introduce you to the act of death prep—or preparing for your death—in order to prepare you for what might happen later so that when the time comes, you already have a roadmap of what you want to do. Death prepping is taking the time now, while there is not a crisis, to consider what you want so that when your dying time does come, you’ll get to spend more time being present with yourself and your loved ones and less time navigating the logistics.
This zine reviews 8 categories of death prep, including:
Managing My Stuff: deciding what happens to your stuff when you're gone and organizing your stuff for easy access
Healthcare Decisions: exploring your preferences for medical care at the end of life
EOL/Serious Illness Logistical Preparation: preparing for the nonmedical logistical side of your last months/weeks/days
Life Review: taking stock of what stories your life has held
Inner Experience Care: getting to know your internal (emotional, mental, spiritual) experiences
Body Disposition: considering what you want to be done with your body when you die
Funeral/Ceremony Arrangements: exploring your preferences for a post-death ceremony or event
Remembrance + Legacy Projects: considering how you want to be remembered when you are gone
Note: This zine covers the basics of end of life planning and is great for those new to this topic or those who don’t have a lot of in depth knowledge about the specifics of planning. For those who have more knowledge, exposure or familiarity with deathcare systems and death logistics, the information in this zine may simply be review.
